The Tennessee Department of Transportation recently released a statement about a crash that sent four people to the hospital. It was one of many truck accidents that happen in road construction zones when drivers fail to take care. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in the early morning hours of a recent Wednesday on Highway 385.
A preliminary crash report indicates that a TDOT truck was following behind a sweeping machine. The crew was busy doing routine work, which is typically scheduled to be done during the hours when traffic is light. Reportedly, a pickup truck rear-ended the TDOT truck, and a big rig driver who was following in the same lane could not avoid striking the pickup truck.
The 18-wheeler rolled over when it collided with the pickup truck. Two TDOT workers were transported to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Authorities say two more people were injured, but it is unclear whether they were in the pickup truck or the big rig. However, it was noted that nobody suffered life-threatening injuries.
In normal circumstances in which workers suffer injuries in truck accidents, they would seek workers’ compensation benefits to cover their medical expenses and lost wages. However, in cases such as this one in which the negligence of a third party caused the workers’ injuries, the victims will be entitled to seek financial relief through the civil justice system of Tennessee. With the support and guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney, victims might recover much more than they would receive through insurance benefits.
