New Procedures In Hamilton County / Chattanooga TN Starting 2023 For Minor Auto Wrecks

Starting January 1, 2023, many larger cities and counties are changing how the police respond to car wrecks. Hamilton County is following other larger counties and discontinuing the practice of having police officers make reports, investigate, and handle car wrecks that they deem “minor” or not, resulting in immediate injuries.

So, what does that mean for you as a driver or passenger if you are involved in a wreck?

Here are some tips:

  1. Attempt to call the police first to see if they will come to the scene.
  2. Make sure to obtain the other driver’s name, address, and insurance information. If they leave without providing it to you, it could really damage your chance of tracking them down later.
  3. Do not assume that because it may not be an emergency that you are not injured. Time and time again, people start to feel the effects of the impact after the adrenaline wears off from the wreck.
  4. Take pictures of all vehicles involved.
  5. Get the names and phone numbers of any witnesses.
  6. Since the police will likely not investigate, call the attorneys who will (423.267.7000).
  7. Attorneys at Davis, Kessler & Davis are ready to answer the call and walk you through every step of the process.
  8. Most importantly, stay calm and be polite to everyone involved. There is a reason people have insurance to pay for the damages and injuries.

Please call our office (423.267.7000) at any time if you have any questions or concerns.
